May I make a suggestion.

We have a flame forum. It's used for open discussion for when things get heated without repercussions thought out the rest of the forums

Make two sub sections.

Religion
Politics

Let them argue, fight, belittle each other and flame away but they have to keep it in either of those two sub sections.

I can't be the only one tired of seeing threads randomly derailed, dissolve into arguing, insulting and belittling each other.
Might be a way of keeping this shit from happening in the general section etc.

Most recent example is the justified shooting thread. Everyone's out for blood over politics.

We all have our moments when we argue and it usually works itself out.

We are here for the same thing and it's not politics or religion. It's the iron.

EDIT: I miss placed most recent example how we normally work things out when it was supposed to be an example of how everything goes to shit and how normally we figure things out .

I'm on a phone and I miss shit plus it's my Friday and the kitchen had burned my brain

I agree with you 100%, but people are going to derail anything that has an opportunity for politics to be injected into it. Some people just get giant boners from politics and can't help themselves. More sub-forums won't stop people from doing that IMO; but it would be nice because then I could just ignore an entire sub-forum instead of individual threads

It's annoying AF, but not against the rules. I do wish more people took advantage of the flame forum, because nearly all conversations on politics and religion tend to devolve into shit flinging at some point.

Perfect example for what I'm going to tell you. Stay the fuuk out of those threads! I have my opinion on some of the hot topics but I refuse to go down that rabbit hole.

When the whole Covid thing started up, I got so tired of the talk in my every day life. But here at UG, I just avoided it. If some thread turns political, I'm out. FYI, I saw the thread you mentioned but never went in.

It doesn't mater to me what forum something gets dropped in, I only go by the latest posts side bar unless I'm looking for something specific.

But everything that happens in the public eye is political. If it's controversial at all, once the subject has been covered it will turn political. Face it, government has inserted itself into every aspect of our lives.

Ugh unfortunately I kind of feel the same way. Lost my mom before 10, my dad before 15 my grandma aka mom, my other grandma and my great grandma my uncle lol.... I know I got family well a little left and the gf but I pretty much only like Thanksgiving and fuck celebrating my bday but yes I know what you meant from both. I'll probably take your advice.

Fyi I don't hate it for others... I got a nephew to think about.

While I like @FlyingPapaya 's suggestion as it would be helpful for the majority if it were observed, to @Send0 's point that kind of political bollocks spreads more quickly than the damn virus itself and seems impossible to contain. I'm trying to be more like @snake then and just ignore the obviously toxic threads.

I have one cousin one aunt one uncle and mom dad step dad and I'm mostly estranged from all of them. I feel you. I have my friend I live with (not gay) and my cat and bodybuilding. Holidays are just another day to me but I don't hate them.
