Roe needs to be reinstated ,, and Harris isnt against guns or the 2nd amendment , she even said you break into her house shes gonna shoot you and is a proud Glock owner.

Ill vote for her over Trump any day.

I thought one of the goals of Biden/Harris was to reinstate the 1994 Assault Weapons ban, but Republicans have so far prevented it from happening.

Correct, they have both said they want that semi-automatic rifle ban. Over and over. I wonder what recently changed?

No one "needs" a swimming pool either, and they are the leading cause of childhood death. Let's ban swimming pools.
damn solid idea , there are plenty of lakes and streams to go around , i never understood the need for a damn pool anyway.

The argument I always hear from the 2A crowd is that it starts with an assault weapons ban, then it's onto handguns, and so on and so forth until all guns are banned one day.

I'm guessing Kamala realizes that stance hurts her in certain swing states, like Arizona and Georgia.

No, the fuckin CONGRESS needs to do their jobs, either pass a law or don't. And if not, it falls back onto the States, as intended by the Constitution.

It's not SCOTUS's job to legislate.

Congress refusing to pass a law is as much their job as passing a law.

Let me give you an example of a "threat to Democracy," not that we live in a democracy.

There was a President who for a few years correctly resisted calls to enact immigration rules through an executive order because he said it was the job of Congress. Well, eventually it was clear Congress was not going to do what the liberals wanted on the "dreamers" and so the President gave a speech.

In the speech, he announced that if Congress (that is, the elected representatives of the people) would not do what he wants, then "I have a pen and a phone" and will do it by executive order. And he did. And people applauded. As was said in Star Wars, that is how democracy dies; to thundering applause.

It took years, but the Supreme Court eventually ruled, 9 to 0, that this was unconstitutional and therefore illegal. That President knew it would happen, and he knew it would take years. Yet he still did it.

There ya go. Threat to democracy of ever there was one. Thank you Mr. Obama.

Dude, the Democrats are running ads about how evil it is and insisting it's "Trump's roadmap" despite constant denials from the Trump team. That makes it a Democrat boogy man, regardless of what is really in it. Like I said, we know what Trump will do because it's what he did before. It does not matter what some long document cooked up by a think tank says. The Republican party has an actual platform which they adopted at their convention. That is their roadmap.

The fact they Democrats are doing this and not touting the strong economy, secure national borders, low gas and grocery prices, low interest rates, affordable housing, their intention to renew the Trump tax cuts which benefited every taxpaying American, peace in Europe and the Middle East, and so on speaks volumes to just how successful their policies are. They have to distract. They got nothin.

I do wish the Libertarians had a ghost of a chance.

Some opinions on guns earlier in the thread...

The 2A wasn't passed so citizens could hunt and defend homes from a lone criminal or a few, it was passed in case govt went crazy and came after citizens. Framers prob couldn't see this far ahead that the govt can just drone us now. The 2A helps secure the 1A also...which Libs are openly trying to violate and do away with currently

Actually, there were no qualifications to it..... the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Doesn't say jack shit about hunting, defense, or government. It's a blanket right that shall not be infringed upon.

Canadian here.

Just for some outside perspective, the Democrats would be considered a moderate right wing party in most countries. The US’ political spectrum is skewed so far to the right that it’s wild.

I actually didn't realize that. Guess it's natural that I wouldn't since this is shoved in our faces every day.

Anything else that we would find interesting from an outside perspective? Like on a scale of 1 to ghey, where do US politics land? 🤔

Mostly true. The only part I disagree with is that European political spectrum is skewed so far left it's wild. :ROFLMAO:

How do you figure they're trying to away with it any more than conservatives like Ron DeSantis are trying to do away with it?

It seems that both sides like to pick and choose when to honor the first amendment and when to disregard it.
