Proper HIIT cardio is MUCH harder than regular cardio.

Not always bro . Riding at a decent speed for a hour is not easy . Hitt is for more advanced athletes and is much harder if your out of shape

For actual heart health, HIIT wins easily.

For burning calories, I prefer steady state, like yourself.

sprinting gets harder as u get older ..I doubt anyone in there 40s is sprinting anywhere to fast
