Just speculation, not like I actually know why they chose her, but my guess is that they followed incumbent logic. Meaning incumbents are usually the favorite to win an election. Since Joe Biden dropped out, I can only guess they thought she'd be the next best thing because she was the sitting VP and people were already familiar with her name?

Not saying it was a good idea, and I understand why they didn't have another primary (not enough time left), It's just the only reason I can think of why they chose her over someone else who would have been more palatable. 🤷‍♂️

This is what I thought too.

You could also potentially compare it to cases like Harry Truman or Lyndon B Johnson taking over for presidents who died in office, and then treated as incumbents.

or to cases of anyone who dies in Office and then who ever takes over sometime after the death, but before 2028.

Nobody gets elected in a primary. A primary is a means by which a political party selects a candidate to enter into an election, but there is nothing in our constitution or laws that says a political party must use primaries to choose its candidates.
Look, you're not really as smart or clever as you think you are. Parsing the offhand posts of other members in a hyper critical way does not make them look stupid and you smart, it makes you look obnoxious. Everyone, including you, knew what he meant.

Yes. He would fit right in here...
Insulting the members of this board is about as effective as calling half of American voters garbage. Its not going to get you any points.
About you? Not me.
Ditto.

She was chosen for two main reasons. First, the "Biden / Harris" campaign had $200 million in the bank, and certain legal restrictions complicated transferring that money to a new candidate. In fact it was not completely clear that Harris could keep that money, but she did anyhow, but if anyone had a legal case to inherit those funds, it was Harris.

Next, Democrats were trapped by their own identity politics. She was picked by Biden initially because she is a black woman, not because she was going to make a great VP. Face it, the VP does very little in many administrations. The VP pick also contributes little to the electability of the main candidate but most candidates still make the VP pick based on election strategy.

Anyhow, had the Democrats passed over the siting VP, a black woman, then much of their base, probably all the black women, would have sat home and not voted for whoever else they picked. They knew this. It's why Michelle Obama's name kept popping up.

Very few people knew who Harris was even when she was VP, and of those who did know her, her approval numbers were actually worse then Biden's. Still, they were trapped and had little choice but to coronate her. So they did.

There's a lot of assumptions in there presented as if it's the truth; some plausible and others pretty far fetched. The fact is none of us actually know with any level of certainty why they went with her.

Also agree with everything you replied to BD on. Dude claims to be a 68 year old man, but sure doesn't act like it.

Oh fair enough, I can't claim to know what was in the minds of all the delegates. But the reasons I cited at least seem to make sense, and there was a lot of discussion leading up to her pick. But yes, I'm speculating as well.

Oh I didn't realize he was that old, I guess his posts are his way of yelling "Damn kids! Get off my lawn!"

Oh, they are definitely logical. I didn't mean to come off as argumentative. Sorry if it seems that way.

Either that or he's a kid posing as an elderly man, and trolling us all with his chat GPT bullshit.

I started keeping an eye on him when he was trying to harass gadawg about news sources. It was extremely obvious he was picking a fight. Typical troll behavior.

Jury is still out for me on what I really think about him. But at a minimum, he comes off as a child and not a 68 yo dude.

If we go back to 2019, the party did seem to have an interest in protecting Harris at all costs. Remember when Tulsi Gabbard destroyed her in the debates, and generated a lot of buzz online? Many independents like myself were intrigued by her, but she was not invited back to the subsequent debates.

It seems like the party wanted to build up Harris as their next big thing. Perhaps Gavin Newsome will now file into that role.

I am a big, old, mother fucker who likes to lift weights and drink beer. Trump is my president, and I am glad. I have been critical, but he is a shit ton better than Kamala, and goddamn it he won.

I pray now they win the House, because I don’t want to sit through four years of those assholes trying to impeach him every time he turns around.

Leave him the fuck alone. He won. People knew what he was when they voted for him. Dismiss all that criminal shit too, and unite behind him and let him govern.

End of rant.

Que Mala? quemarla? Kamala ripped off Hillary's 2016 concession speech if you listen to both. She is not original which is why she lost by landslide. It was a big "fuck you" to the entire establishment. i am not political, but I voted for Trump the apparent bullshit dog pile that I have come to see from the commie usurped left.

I have to agree with this. Last time, "the resistance" was fighting everything Trump did just because he was Trump. I don't want to see the House impeaching him again absent one hell of a good, strong, compelling reason. The election was not close, I really hope the libs just try working with him this time.

I hope they don't, not because I want him impeached... but because if one party rules everything then there are zero checks and balances.

I'm not preaching doom and gloom, I'm just saying I don't think being completely unchecked is a good thing for the country. 🤷‍♂️

Well there is still the filibuster in the Senate, and the GOP will not remover that. But this is still a good point. I just don't believe the Dems can be a "check and balance" because they are going to be too busy with wholesale destruction.

I understand what you are saying. I’m not as worried as I might have been if there were not so many Republicans who are not fully in the cult of Trump, and still manage to think for themselves a bit. I’m hoping the fiscal conservatives do a better job of checking him this time.

Same, that's what I'm hoping for as well.

Time will tell.

Oh I think you guys will get your wish on fiscal restraint, at least I'm hoping so. I recall trump at least professing unhappiness with the spending. He did promise a bunch more during the campaign, so we'll see. I want to see big cuts as well.

Give it a few weeks and inflation numbers will be back up. That! No one can help; the chickin’s have come home to roost.

The biggest driver of inflation is government spending. Both Republican and Democrat members of Congress love to spend money. Until that gets fixed, we're stuck with inflation.

But, if we start producing energy and exporting it and reduce government spending (that is, repeal the "inflation reduction act" and pair down the "chips act" and a bunch of other things) there is for sure hope we can get inflation down, and therefore interest rates down.
