My kid is taking his Asvab for the 3rd time cause the original position he wanted was airplane security in the Air Force but somehow failed his hearing test 🤦‍♂️ so now I need him to get a higher score for more positions to open up cause he went to a doctor retook the hearing test passed it but they didn’t accept it.

I don’t want him to go and take a shitty job position I want him to learn something valuable and get a good start to life. About to get him going with an online Asvab tutor starting tomorrow.

Any one with this experience or any advice please let me know, thanks.

What was his score? He can get a waiver for hearing. I recommend a job that directly transfers in civ world. Example nuke engineer, nuke med. Ct, ultrasound, air traffic controller, flight medic, nurse, drone operator, aircraft mechanic.
Aircraft security would suck balls, soundslike a lot of guard duty.

41 and 43 second time I believe he wanted to do airplane security but they didn’t accept the doctors hearing test he took after.

Oh, perhaps get a study guide book and work with him. Word of Caution, if he does improve his score would picking a more technical job hurt him? If if fails MOS training and they don't recycle him he may get a shitty job picked for him.

I’m not the one to work with him lol I sucked at school the openings he had with that score all we’re nothing interesting.

What happens at MOS? He can still fuck something up after the boot camp portion? Damn I though once he gets the job he gets trained for it

After basic you go to your job training, each branch calls is something, Army is MOS, Navy calls is Rate I believe. Depending on job picked you will be treated anywhere from a middle schooler to college student. You get a bit more freedom to fuck up and not study.

Ok so a better job is def want we need for him cause the jobs available with his score def will be a middle schooler guessing need to get him over the 50 point range to be safe 🤦‍♂️

He will get exactly what is in his contact nothing more or less, Any verbal promises by recruiter mean nothing.if it's not in contract, not going to happen. They will train him in his job, it's up to him to pass the tests.

Now I have heard they are treated nicer, my experience is from basic and medic training in 1997.

Don’t guess. Best advice is to talk to a recruiter and see what score he needs to get the job he wants. Be reasonable tho, he may not jump from 43 to 80 for example.

Aiming for over 50 at least not sure he can get any higher then that 😂

bro IDK how to ask this without sounding like an asshole.

Is he dumb or just not applying himself?
He is part Polish.
I say this from a half breed pole to another.
Do you know why the new football stadium they built in Warsaw could not be used?

No matter where you sat you were behind a Pole.

Just joking on stereotype

If he is not committed I would not push it. Military life can be a huge shock to some people. Depending on job, rank, location, attitude. and deployment, life can really suck or be Best thing to ever happen to him. One duty station maybe four people to a room next dutystation may have a private room but we are talking about the Air Force and of all the branches they have it the fucking best on everything. If my daughter were to join which I would not encourage her to do so I would push Air Force.

If he wants to be something more than cannon fodder, his score needs to be over 80.

If he wants to actually have a career that pays well once he leaves, he wants to be in the 90s. Cryptolingquistics is a motherfucker for schooling, but he can exit the armed forces with a 6 figure job.

At least get him into aviation. Electrician or airframe are best bets.

How he does on the test will determine how beneficial his time in service will be for his future.
Ask me how I know.

P.S if the ASVAB tops out at 99 and your son is getting 40s... he's effectively getting a grade in the 40s. He needs to get his ass in gear and be training to ace the physical. Aim for perfect, but the minimum to be accepted.

Just something to ponder….. Say u get the boy a tutor that gets him over the hump. The tech school isn’t no joke! It’s actually stressful as shit. U r in between a basic trainee and active duty. So u still get treated like shit. Wake up at 5 for pt every morning, have room inspections, then the schooling. The schooling has the added pressure of washing your ass back a single sub par test score. You do that shit a couple times they don’t discharge u and send you home! Instead he will spend the next 4 years spooning slop at the chow hall.

I do agree get him in the best career field he can get. But don’t over reach either.
