Australia bans social media for children under 16. Should other countries do the same?

I mostly agree but it is so hard watching real life Idiocracy happen in front of your eyes. It truly feels like you're in a fucking airplane about to crash and can't do a thing about it. My daughter's school took away advanced math because the volunteer, a fucking volunteer, The largest school district in the state needs a volunteer for math who comes in and teaches the children during the regular math was needed more for kids who were behind the national average in 5th grade. Luckily I teach her when she gets home. But the school solution was to give them a website that they could go to during their free time at school!
I understand your frustration. I feet the same way.

I'm 100% dictator in my home. It's my way or the highway. My kingdom starts at my front yard. If I have young teens in my home they follow my commandments, or it the highway.

It's a slippery slope. If people you disagree with are in a position to tell you right from wrong, I have a feeling you won't like it.

In short I tell my 16 yo what he can do under my roof, but I'm not going to tell you what to do in you home.

Australia isn't an example to use. Didn't they drastically limit gun ownership? I'm not an expert on Australia. But one thing I know is I don't want either Rachel Maddow on the left or any of the wingnuts on the right telling me what to think or do.

I have 9 grand kids from 19 years old to 4 years old. The all live on their phones before and still do.

They use alternate sites to do exactly what they did. So nothing changed but the sites the kids use. My daughter's were hoping the change would give them back their kids. No such luck.

The older grand daughters 16 and 14 use their mothers accounts on the things they can no longer use. So total waste of tax money.

Kids find a way.

When my daughter was younger, she had a phone problem. It first started when her mom bought her an iPhone without consulting me. So I look like the bad guy if I take it away.

Ground rules were laid out, I even made my daughter sign a "contract" with these rules written down, so there could be no arguments later as to what was allowed and what was not.

Of course, she disobeyed them. So I took the phone away for a week. During that week, she started using other devices to access the internet, some that I had no idea that they even could. I caught her, and then all electronics were taken away for a month. I then set up controls on my Wifi network to limit which devices could have access, and at what times.

Well, she took one of her stepdad's old phones, used it behind my back. I see it being used on my network, so I go into her room and seized it. Now we're up to no electronics for the entire summer.

I sit her down and have a frank talk with her. I tell her, honey, I'm not going to lose this battle. The only one who can lose is you, so you have to decide how badly you want to lose.

She got the point, she backed off, at least as far as what was under my control. I couldn't stop her friends from sharing their phones with her during school, but I made sure that home was a safe place, there was no bullshit, she could study, do homework, and relax in peace. And she got a good night's sleep because she wasn't on a device.

I don't need the government to do my job. I need them to do what they're supposed to be doing already, but aren't. Don't use our children as some bullshit political weapon to try to get votes, saying that candidate XYZ voted against the Protect The Children Act. Go fuck yourselves.

Nice. I could feel the pain.
I was 26 when mobile phones became a thing. No txt no internet. Just calls and shit recdption.

My kids had the worst call up internet imaginable. By the time they were late teens it was possible to do internet on a mobile. But my grand kids have had all this shit all their lives. The differences/damage is visible. between the three generations it is sickening how anti social we became.

My kids have limited attention spans and keep ratty houses. Laundry piled up on the floor. My kids grew up with their faces glued to the television. VHS was their weekend if left to them to decide. Not much has changed the oldest kid of mine is 40. Watches tv all weekend the kids are in their rooms playing PlayStation. They pay some other kid to mow the grass and wash their car

My grand kids watch television with their phones in their faces. The house could burn down round them and they wouldn't know.

Any way my point is don't make your kids like you are. Try to be more like them. Find middle ground. My kids and grand kids are lazy. But I forgive them. I blame me. My son is 38 lives under our house with his girlfriend. Both my daughter's live in houses we paid for and they rent from us. None of them have the drive to do much more than get out of bed and work.

Don't push so hard for perfection that your imperfect child grows up and never speaks to you. Not saying you are. But take a view from their eyes and remember what your parents did to you.

Btw. Good work cj. Sticking to what you believe in is an important lesson for all children to learn.

That's my point about "social" media it makes people sit alone staring into devices like zombies while the world passes by with little care or notice. Social media will never be social.

She's since admitted that she had a "phone problem", which is her way of saying thanks, without saying thanks.

It's been about 5-6 years since it all happened.

Sorry I didn't see your reply. I was sitting on the couch watching the 2002 olympia again.

If I was watching the goat is that like farm work.

I’m all about doing away with laws not creating more. I’m not a big fan of the zombie society. But I don’t want someone telling me more crap I gotta do or else.

The biggest one that just chaps my ass is the seatbelt law. Why what i choose for my own personal safety is someone else’s decision is beyond me. I get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt in a 4x4 truck. Meanwhile a guy zooms by on a Harley with no seatbelt or helmet and gets a wave from the officer. Brilliant!

Kid on an unregistered dirt bike pulled a wheelie past me and a police car yesterday at the lights. They didn't even chase. But if it were me they would have pulled me over and done a body cavity search.

We are hookers and the cops are johnies. Fucking us when ever they feel the need.

Merry xmas to you and family big guy.
