I disagree that carb cycling is for fat loss only. On off days, you don't need as many carbs as on training days, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't eat any at all. Depends on how many calories you have to eat. On non-training days, i'd eat oats, sweet potatoes, or something complex for breakfast for energy throughout the day.

OP, do you have a caloric intake goal at this point?

I'm really not sure what to set my goal for this week.
My protein sources alone will put me at 2300. I could fill in carbs around the workouts and hit 2900, looking to also add vegetables for around 100 calories. so 3k for this week, then see how that went next monday? I'm really hungry and could go crazy bulk mode but I don't wanna lose too much leanness

I'm just curious how many days a week are you training? Also how much physical activity are you doing outside of your workouts everyday?

We don't burn that many calories from lifting.

Any reason you don't start at a more moderate amount of calories; like 2500-2600 calories per day... and then increase calories by 100 per week until you start to see the scale move north?

This would let you know EXACTLY how much you need to eat to grow. It wouldn't take that many weeks of this approach to figure that out either.

Also if your currently getting 2300 calories from protein alone, then that's 575g of protein per day. That's 3.4g of protein per lb of bodyweight. Seems way unnecessary.

Carbs are protein sparing and will help you grow. You could get away with much less protein than what you'd use in a cut.

575g of protein is basically a very expensive carb source. Save your money, and have tastier meals, by moving some of that into carbs. You aren't going to get fat if you take the time to dial this in.

Still more protein than what you need at 170lbs. Eat some potatoes, rice, or whatever it is you find tasty. That frees up protein that would be undergoing gluconeogenesis so that it can be used for repair, recovery and muscle protein synthesis.

Think about it; 1lb of fat is 3500 calories. Now go take 1lb of chicken breast... that contains ~500 calories and close to 100g of protein.

Just trying to help you not become bloat lord version 2.0 😅.

Marathon and not a race. I'll be following alone regardless of how you approach things.

i did the whole "1.5x bw" thing for protein last bulk and barely put on any quality muscle so I'm trying 2.5x bw this time around and seeing if it makes things different

This is food... but it's also an indirect comparison of how many calories it would take build 1lb of fat vs 1lb of muscle (assuming everything else is dialed in)

1 pound of fat

Lmao there’s the second person telling you more calories doesn’t equal more size. Second person also suggesting starting at 2500 and adding II a small amount of calories every week.

When you go over your baseline for calories your body can only add so much muscle per week. If you’re gaining 2 lbs a week odds are about a lb is going to be fat. At 170 lbs and 3300 calories you’re going to be fat again.

You keep contradicting yourself.. Do you want to "keep your leanness" or add body weight?

Your retarded.

Stop asking for advice if you’re not going to do it if it doesn’t validate what you want to do.

Be a man and do what ever the fuck you want
