Gave this 8 a dirt nap on Saturday. He was hanging up in the thick shit and wouldn't come out until dark. Seen him twice getting out of my tree so I closed the gap.

Came straight in and thought I wasn't going to get a broadside shot. Turned at 15yds and double lunged him. Heard him crash at 40 yds but way to think to see him but with the wind over his back, I could smell him until I got out of my tree.

That's one of my assistants who helps me butcher.

Hell yeah man !!!

Son was the only one who drew a limited quota tag, took him out and got a nice one. Otherwise the wife and I will be hunting general tags on 1,000,000 acres of public and state land.

Since we are doing worlds we will not get out much as we are in the gym as much as we can.

Side note, wife should draw her moose soon, she has the preference points for it. I drew my moose 5 years ago.

Happy hunting buddy!

Still been bear hunting here but switching to deer soon. If I tag out on bucks, Ill probably try and fill my second bear tag late season when it gets hard.
Do you eat the bear meat? If so what is it like? Some people tell me it's awful, while others say it has a pleasant gaminess to it?

What's your experience?

How do you all process the meat?

For grinding I use a cheap Cabella grinder. I used to have a hand crank and put the young men of mine to work. I also use it for making venison sticks.

I bone out the hams and freeze them then after the season I get out a good old slicer and make chip steak. Typically around 30-50 lbs depending on how many deer I harvest.

What's a limited quota tag?
It is a specific area within Wyoming where they only allow a certain number of tags to be hunted. So you have to draw the tag via a lottery. Usually good tags if you can draw em

Yes. Bear is much better than deer IMO. It basically ends up as a mix of pork and beef but leaning toward beef. Great as pot roast, smoked bbq, steaks, burgers, etc.

We have a lot of bears in North GA. I like to hunt them exclusively with a recurve. Average one is 150lbs or so. But there is a wide range. Just yesterday a 610 was killed near my cabin.

Got my vacation approved today! Nov 4-22 I be in hot pursuit of Mr buckeroo! I had to set up a handful of pop up blinds a few weeks ago. This Achilles isn’t healed enough to get in a tree.

I hate pop ups! It’s not cause they aren’t effective. It’s just it takes away from my overall experience. 12-15’ up in a tree guarding a tight funnel is where I’m most happy.

Anywho…. Good luck to all afield

Certainly no Booner, but had antlers inside of 10 yards on the first sit of the year. Wind was kinda “iffy” this morning. Crawled up in a 10’ ladder in a low odds spot. Just happy to see something close. No rutting activity yet in my parts. Gonna lay low for the next week or so. Waiting til the grease is ready to fry 😉

Been hitting it pretty hard the past few days. No all day sits yet, mainly hunting til 11:00. Nothing to write home about. Seen a few young bucks starting to feel frisky. But mostly doe still with fawns. Best guess is I’m about 4 to 5 days away from the fuse really getting lit.

Gonna just keep hunting til mid morning until action picks up. Then I’m gonna crank it up dusk til dawn! For myself only 2 things have to transpire. A big buck has to pass by my tree and i have to be there when he does.

A old timer told me when I was a kid something I never forgot. On any given property there is one tree more big bucks pass by than any other. It’s your job to find that tree and be there when he does.

Ive got a spot like that , and at around 100 meters there's a rise and a stone wall ,, they always come from the back side of that , and its funny as fuck because all you can see at first is their heads , looks like some kind of fucked up rabbit until you realize what you are looking at.

Woohoo… seen my first shooter today. Fcker didn’t follow the script and passed by at around 40 yards. To far for my shooting abilities.

I told a fishing buddy the story and he just laughed. Wasn’t much of a story. I just said I’ve probably spent around 40 hours on stand the past 8 days and saw my first shooter.

I’m not claiming a special talent, i mean I don’t speak fluent buck in 6 languages. I beat there ass with grit an persistence. I suspect I average 75 to 100 hours on stand b4 I let an arrow fly. Sad…. Yes!

But like death and taxes sooner or later it’s gonna happen 😎

Not usually but some specialty meat markets do, and there are some online stores that sell it.

Deer meat is some of the highest protein, leanest meat you can acquire.
I’m trying to find it . I used to eat a lot of bison during the times I was really ripped
