Hey all, new guy here posting an introductory thread.

54 years old, 5'6", 144 lbs.

Enthusiast cyclist and want to be body builder. :)

I really enjoy cycling and have a great group of friends I ride with year around. Closing in on 6,000 miles ridden for 2024. I've also been lifting for 3 years or so, and enjoy it as well.

My goals from weight lifting are to get the "toned and athletic" look instead of the skinny cycling look. I will likely post a picture or two to get some advice from folks here.

Going to have to dial back the miles somewhat, and replace those sessions with gym time. Oh, and eat more.

The body can only serve one master. Major in one and minor in the other. I will tell you this, with your drive you can do a lot.

Thanks for the replies. I know you are both correct, and I needed to hear it. Now I need to decide what I really want, and what I'm prepared to give up.

Welcome!

You don't have to give up cycling, but like CJ said, you will have to tone it back. Start hitting the weights and stacking dinner plates, give yourself time for good rest. There is a lot of great information here and a lot of great members. Get a plan together, present it, and you will get plenty of help and tweaking along the way.

It’s a slippery slope. Up thru 2019 I was running 2000-3000 miles per year, running marathons and ultras. At my fastest I was 6’2” and just 155lbs but between training blocks I’d sit just under 170lbs.

The next few years I shifted away from running and focused on the gym. At first I was still running 20 miles per week. Then one speed workout and one long run a week. This past year I’ve run a total of 10 miles. My current weight is 215lbs and climbing.

You already have the dedication and discipline to ride 6K miles you’ll do well enough in whatever you decide. Good luck man and welcome.

I'm 58. 248 pounds. I've competed inter nationally in cycling when young.

Now I just mountain bike 3 times a week for a 2 hour session. As said make the choice. A big dude rides a slow bike but he gets fast women. A thin dude rides a fast bike but gets big women.

Join the big boys world. Let the spiders live on your bike while you live in the cot.
