I agree my friend, and I'm not discounting their experiences.
I'm just saying that I believe they're like us, and experience and opinions can vary quite drastically.

Not saying that I’m stoked about our current political state of affairs in the US but I think it speaks volumes the lengths people from the rest of the world will go to so they can join our country.

Most of the problems and experiences, both negative and positive of the Russian people and most everyone else, we have right here as well.

I encourage conversation and debate but it’s a two way street. Don’t belittle others experiences when arguing. You have multiple people here that are either Russian, married Russians, and/or visited and spent time in Russia with Russians. You would be wise to take a moment and let that soak in before you reply. Just saying.

In a society there are laws. I look at them as a set of guidelines that i can choose to follow or not. But there will be consequences. If i don't want those consequences then i can choose to leave that society of or i can deal with them even if i don't like what is going on. Same thing with leaders of nations. In the US they are elected that is why they have the right. If i don't like it i can choose leave that society or just deal with it. If i want the benifits of a society then i take the good with the bad. And being outraged accomplishes nothing and does not help my life. I can actively engage in changing or i can choose to be unhappy that i am not getting my way.

In this country politicians are bought, not elected. And the politicians do not represent you or me, they represent the special interest groups who bought and paid for them. If you think any politician gives a shit about you one way or the other, or have any legitimate right to rule over you, you have not been paying attention. I have as much right to be here as you or anybody else. And if I choose to stay it does not mean that I approve of this fucked up country. It just means that this is where I landed.

Both good points here and not necessarily at odds with each other.

On one hand, at least in theory, in a free Republic we have the power to change courses if we choose.

On the other hand, such as it is, our government is not one of the people anymore, but of the vested monetary interests.

To combine the two perspectives, it's true what @buck says, that it's something we have to live with whether we like it or not.

But it's also true we should not stop or give up trying to fix it. Because it's not over until we give in and submit. As long as we resist, there is hope.

You're right that as supposed free men we should never accept the corruption and degeneracy of our ruling class as unchangeable or omnipotent.

But we would be foolish not to realize that we can't fix it easily or that we don't have to tolerate some things we despise at times when we don't have the means to change them.

I'd just say to both points that victory and dominance by nature are temporary affairs and the vanquished or dominated by no means owe any allegiance to their captors.

When time and conditions permits we must be ready to put our boots on the necks of the malevolent bastards without hesitation or restraint. Enter the circle of doom and challenge those powers that be once again for our own future, freedom and children's prosperity.

But until then, we have to get by and wait...

And that doesn't matter if you're Russian, American, European or Laotian.

If I give you the appearance of having a say so, (but with no real say so) it is easier for me to control you than if I tell you flat out that you have no say. As long as I can keep you believing you have a say so in elections, giving you the choice between two cartoon characters to choose from (both of whom I pull the strings for), and as long as I can keep you paying your taxes (and feeling grateful for the opportunity to do so) we can all get along just fine.

There is a reason Big Pharma pays millions and millions of dollars to politicians (of both parties). It is cost effective. The payouts for that investment are in the billions and billions. There is a reason that Boeing and the military industrial complex pays millions of dollars. Their payoff is in the billions.

You're right, but that's how it's supposed to be here. The United States was never meant to be a direct democracy. We're a republic with representative democracy. Presidents should have to convince people in all corners of our country to vote for them, not just major population centers like NY, LA, Chicago, etc.

For sure. Don't get me wrong, democracy isn't always such a good thing. Democracy is majority rules, it's not fair to minorities (which is why I am amazed that minorities in this country so widely vote democrat). Democracy put Hitler into office and resulted in the Holocaust. Democracy is insufficient to govern large populations, which is why the founders explicitly avoided it.

Context is important. The statement "fairness doesn't exist" is true in certain contexts, but as an absolute statement, it is absurd. Of course fairness exists. If people only cared about the end result then no one would watch the games, they would just lookup the score when it's over. People enjoy competition. Competition is human nature, it's in our genes, that's why people like sports. Fairness isn't necessary for people to enjoy sport, but it is necessary for sport to be profitable.

I'm 5'9" tall. I don't think it's fair that NBA basketball players are 6'5" or more. People who are 6'5" have an unfair advantage. It's not fair!

I would like reparations! This unfairness is historical and systemic in the sport!
