Russia has shelved its desires to negotiate an end to the war. Perhaps this is because Ukraine now has way more leverage than it previously did?

As a result of the ongoing incursion of Ukrainian forces into Russian territory, Moscow has decided to put any peace talks over its war against the neighbouring country on hold, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

In a press conference dedicated to the so-called "crimes of the Kyiv regime," ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik said that the issue of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine had been "put for a long pause" after Kyiv's attacks on the Kursk region, labelling them as "terrorist actions".

"Conducting negotiations with an absolutely inadequate adversary today is simply unnatural," Rodion Miroshnik explained.

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, authorities in Kyiv have refused to discuss any peace agreement with Moscow unless it involves the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from all occupied areas, including the Crimean peninsula, unilaterally annexed by the Kremlin in 2014.

Well, Putin had nice popularity before and this action disappointed Russians and any security feeling within their own territory

The Ukrainian forces are still 55 miles away from the power plant, but have attacked and at least partially disables four Russian air fields. They did this with drones because the fools in the oval office have not yet, any may never, grant permission for use of US missiles inside Russia.

Russia is trenching and setting up a defensive position about five miles from the power plant along a major highway that serves as a supply route, so they are defending the highway and the plant, but ceding nearly 50 miles of territory.

Russia is sending more troops. There are apparently some strange laws about when contract troops can refuse to go where and why. It seems 500 or so contract troops refused to go but are somehow being sent anyhow, most likely as cannon fodder.

Russia is not giving sign on bonuses of $20,000 for people to enlist, and paying about $7,500 per month. The entire incursion is crushing the Russian economy and it may be that more than Ukrainian resistance that eventually forces an and to this stupidity.

I'm still for sending in American air power, but I'm pretty alone in that position.

Id just like to see Russia dominate Ukraine by whatever means and bring them back into the fold.

It's about as likely as Putin giving the green light to an invasion of Alaska. There is arguably nothing to gain for the United States (and perhaps even Ukraine) for such a scenario to take place.

Russia is trenching and setting up a defensive position about five miles from the power plant along a major highway that serves as a supply route, so they are defending the highway and the plant, but ceding nearly 50 miles of territory.

History would tell us that is not a bad idea for Russia at all. It will be very easy for these Ukrainian forces to become spread too thin.

Id just like to see Russia dominate Ukraine by whatever means and bring them back into the fold.

Do you apply this same logic for all of the post-Soviet states, or only Ukraine?

New evidence seems to confirm that Ukraine was behind the Nord Stream pipeline's destruction and the ensuing environmental disaster:

The scheme reportedly cost around $300,000 (€273,000) and involved a six-member crew on a small rented yacht. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initially approved it before the US intelligence agency CIA caught wind and asked him to stop.

The Ukrainian president ordered a halt but his commander-in-chief, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, went ahead with the operation anyway, the WSJ said.

The outlet said it had spoken to four senior Ukrainian defence and security officials who either participated in or had direct knowledge of the plot and that all of them considered the pipelines as a legitimate target as it defended itself against Russia.

On the other hand, many still believe it was a false flag operation by the Russians:

Yet, German intelligence officials have said that they doubt that Ukraine was really behind the sabotage and that it's possible it was a "false flag" operation by Russia.

This is supported by Polish authorities who sent the names of Russian suspects to Germany's intelligence service.

The WSJ article comes after German media reported that prosecutors had issued the first arrest warrant in their investigation into the Nord Stream attack. The report identified the man as Volodymyr Z, without citing sources, and suggested he had recently returned to Ukraine.

Polish authorities have since revealed they attempted to arrest Volodymyr Z at his address in a town near Warsaw in July but that he had already gone back to his native country.

He wasn't stopped at the Polish-Ukrainian border because German authorities failed to enter his name in the wanted database, the Polish prosecutor's office said on Wednesday.

As sad as it is to say, it probably benefits the US in at least two ways. Economically (from weapons sales) and of course keeping one of our main adversaries bogged down in a long, costly war.

Biden and company planned on other benefits that didn't pan out. The Russian economy was supposed to have collapsed in 2023.

That level of effort and commitment will be saved for defending Israel/fighting Iran.

It's mutually assured destruction either way. The opinions of other countries wouldn't matter much when everybody dies because of the US and Russia.

How likely do you think th
If Putin is backed into corner, it becomes a possibility. He won't lose an election, he will lose his life. Depends on if he wants to take the rest of us with him.

If the day ever comes where American face off with Russian men . That will be americas last day
Mutual assured destruction. 100% honest. I watch talking heads speaking of war, and it blows my mind how fucking stupid they are. It should be unthinkable, but here we are, considering it.

I can't say I like Trump all that much, but I think he has the best chance of defusing this. I have no faith whatsoever in the other person.

The Russians have flea's and tac-nukes just like we do , shit you can fire from artillery or recoiless rifle and take out an area the size of a small town.

Nothing in international law that says you can't detonate a nuke on your own land.

I don't think Putin planned it this way but by advancing into Russia and creating a bulge like that in their forward line they are asking to get smacked in the face by one.
