This seems kind of foolish, but I am having a hard time determining a solid amount food I need to take in on a daily basis.
I am eating 4 meals a day and currently just eye balling my rice/chicken/ground turkey/fish etc..
I am looking to still add mass but in the leanest way possible, my question is how do I determine how to scale my food properly? I've read multiple articles and they seem to contradict themselves so thought I'd ask here!
A couple of things.. 215lbs/5'11"/31yrs old/ tend to over eat/ currently one wk on my cycle.
any helpful articles you have found or personal experiences would help tremendously!

THANKS!

If you tend to overeat, stop eyeballing your meals, weigh them and track Cals/macros properly if you want the BEST results.

Do you absolutely need to? No. But as you said yourself, you tend to overeat just eyeballing it.

I have one I picked up very similar to this lastnight at target!
Just make sure it's a digital scale.

The cheap ones with internal elastics are way off, especially the heavier you get. So if you weigh in bulk, those are close to useless.

I appreciate that insight, have you ever used the app my fitness pal to track? If so, thoughts?

Here’s what I do….
That scale I linked is great. Just put the plate or Tupperware on it and tap the power button, that zeros it. Then weigh your food. You can do grams or ounces

I go to calorie king . Com I think it is, and you look up the particular food you’re weighing. It’ll tell you calories, protein, carbs per ounce or gram

After you do it for a few months you’ll know the values by heart

For over 10 years now, yes.

It gets easier as you use it, the foods we all tend to eat are kinda sorta saved as you start to type them in.

You can save common meals and foods that you eat, so it only takes seconds to make entries.

The bar code scan feature is nice, but double check with the actual label, because sometimes it's off. Same with some foods, as it's people who enter the food information.

Chronometer is a similar app that people use to track as well. But I'm a MFP guy.

I used to weigh everything
But I use a shortcut now

I just cook whatever is in the package I bought and divide it into meals

The packaging on meat has a weight on it, as such I get an accurate weight.
Things like slices of bread etc, have a set calorie count.

I'm old school so i record it on paper for the day

Great point for the OP.

Cook in bulk, divide into meals, get the average Cals/macros.

Great time saver, helps to have quick grab-n-go meals prepared, makes it easier to stay on track.

Also
I say fuck variety.
Each day is it's own shit.
I'll cook 2 lbs of beef and eat that all day.

I'm here for gains, spices and cooking style can make everything tasty.

Time is the issue, I work a minimum of 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

So time is unbelievably important

Weigh it with a kitchen scale. Weigh it raw/uncooked.

I disagree. You want to weigh it cooked because that is what you are taking in. You would be amazed at the weight loss when cooked.

That's exactly why you weigh it RAW.

A 12 ounce piece of raw meat could end up being 10 ozs, 8 ozs, or even 6 ozs after it's cooked, depending upon how long you cook it. BUT.... the Cals and macros don't change.

And Cals and macros are listed on labels for RAW/UNCOOKED, unless otherwise noted.

If you weigh your food cooked, you WILL be off on cals and macro calculations
