I dont know how many gyms have these but mine does and theyve become my favorite and most hated exercise. Sleds literally stress every system of the body simultaneously.

At my gym, a trainer invented what hes calling “the gauntlet”. This is a timed and competitive workout that we have gotten into big time.

Basically, you start with one plate on a sled, pull it 60 feet backwards by the attached straps and then push it back. You immediately add another plate and repeat. You do this until the plate goal is met and then go all the way back down to one plate. We do 5, 7, 10, and 12.

Very few people can even complete a 12 plate. Warning, this is hard to recover from, especially when added to a lifting program. But the benefits are extreme. Ive done some form of cardio every single day for years but this has changed me physiologically. Ive dropped 15 points in blood pressure and removed an entire medication from my life.

It is not fun. But if you like the most extreme hardship and self harm, give it a go.

I'm a fan of indoor bikes, easier to get to and hold specific HR's, but the sled is an a great, versatile tool, too!!!

There is something about walking backwards , pulling backwards that really helps strengthen the knees. I don't understand all the mechanics to it but it does work.

It's just a partial ROM leg extension.

I'm not surprised that you've noticed benefits such as improved blood pressure and reduced medication. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) like this, especially if it involves whole-body movements like sledding, can lead to significant cardiovascular improvements.
