I work 3-11pm.
I skip breakfast, sleep through it
Lunch about 1pm
Take my break 9-10pm, an hour
My work has a full gym!!
I need to eat a little something before I hit the gym. I don’t wanna eat wrong food or stuff myself. I’ll give myself about 10 minutes to eat something then walk over to the gym. What would be the best simple snack or meal to eat just minutes before working out? Something that will give me the boost and strength that I need, and not make me tired from eating it.
Thanks!!

I will go with either some smoothie, or a protein shake, or both mixed. For me that's the best solution.

Coffee and thoughts of those I dislike the most are the norm.

Maybe some fruit mid work out , box of raisins , chunk of dark chocolate , Reese's

What ever is handy I ain't so fussy.

I do well with a bagel or whole grain bread before training, although fruit is great too.

I would seriously avoid eating something 10 minutes before my workout. Now I will take a 20 oz cup of coffee in with me.

Your calorie intake should be happening all day. You should be getting some decent protein in first thing when you crack your eyes open.

If I have about an hour, I'll eat a banana and some cottage cheese. If it's wake up and go straight to the gym, I'll drink a shake during my workout that contains Gatorade and protein powders.

Honestly, it depends on your workout and goals, in my opinion. Are your goals to become stronger or bigger or both? If you eat too much 45 minutes of going to the gym, your stomach demands blood flow to your stomach to aid digestion which takes away from the blood to your extremities that effect your ATP, your oxygen, your energy and not getting a “pump”. If you have a super intense anaerobic workout, you must throw some carbs in there to build your glycogen for your energy needs. If you’re looking to gain mass, I like to have a protein shake and hour and a half before I go. I love, optimum nutrition, chocolate, and I put in a shaker cup with milk, but never within one hour of working out. it’s easy on my stomach, digest quickly, but not a lot of sugars.
I may grab a couple of rice crispy bars one hour before working out. Some guys eat a bowl of cereal. Others as mentioned above, say to eat an apple. Any simple sugar such as fructose (fruits), Sucrose (cane sugar) or lactose (dairy). Dextrose is a super simple sugar that’s ingested very quickly and it’s very cheap. if you’re trying to keep your strength as you stated, but trying to gain some size or maintain your size, you need to consume about 1 g of protein per pound of lean body weight throughout the day. Be sure to consume that within 30 minutes of your post workout. before you go to bed and when you wake up is very important as well to break that fast=breakfast

My regulars

Brisket, bbq beans, mac & cheese, couple slices of bread, root beer etc

Or in & out double frys and coke ...

Can be on the treadmill or lifting within 10 minutes or however long it takes to get there.

Used to get nauseous squatting so I would eat lighter on those days

But lately it doesn't happen anymore, i can eat whatever & still squat no worries

If I was in your situation I’d have a shake. I drink one post workout but in your situation which sounds really depleted, I’d have it 30 minutes before training. 50g protein and 50g plain rice crispies blended.

So you don't have any stomach discomfort from a shake before working out?

And isn't it possible to eat before? I mean 10 mins before the gym is ok if you have no other chance, but often, having already most of the day behind, I have eaten 2-3 times at least, so the meal 10 mins before does not play a role. Or is it prohibited/impossible to eat in your office or job?
E.g. I had a turkey 3 hrs ago, some zero fat cheese and potatoes and feeling ok now to lift and no need of meal before workout.

For me it matters less and less depending what time of day I train. When I train in the evening, a pre workout snack doesn't feel as important as training when I've only been awake for a few hours.
