a refeed is something that's necessary for your body to continue moving during a fat loss phase it's not a reward

What is a refeed and is it necessary on a cut?--

Creates an environment where your metabolic capacity stays high even though you are now dieting on less calories.
Person independent, there is not a one size fits all answer.

What is the role of ghrelin during a refeed--

Two hunger hormones. leptin brings hunger down down. ghrelin signals to the stomach to increase hunger.
huge misconception that somebody's metabolic capacity or their ability to handle food is directly correlated to their
hunger. just because you are hungry does not mean your metabolism is running at a fast rate.

refeed structure--
person dependent. depends on the weight trend. could be five days or ten days.

Is there a difference between a refeed and a cheat meal?--
No. ultimately the goal is a caloric increase that can be accomplished either way.
However. the control you have during a calculated refeed is much greater than the amount of variables you don't have control of when someone is eating out.

the best approach is a calculated high day, increasing the amount of food from carb and fat sources that you generally consume on a daily basis.

Best foods to eat on a refeed?--
give your body more of the foods that you typically have on your base diet

should I have my refeed before or after a workout.--
neither. it should be on an off day. it is put in place to help your body further recover.
do not add additional volume on the day before or the day after with the burn it off mindset.
