I would say right now my diet fluctuates between 1700 cals to 2700 cals daily. This coming Jan. I will start a serious low carb low fat diet. I came off a Bulking cycle last June and I'm trying to cut down on BF as much as I can before starting the cut cycle.

I train 5-6 days a week. I have a pretty bad ass Garage Gym at home. I started investing in it when Covid hit and went into lock down here in 3/20 . I tried to go back to the Local Sports Club but wasn't feeling it anymore and just went all out on Rogue, Rep and Sorinex equipment.

Typical split right now, going for moderate rep ranges and volume. I also incorporate alot of cardio at the moment. I own a treadmill, Elliptical and Recumbent Bike
Mon - Chest & Bi's
Tue - Back & Tri's
Wed - Legs
Thur - Shoulders
Fri - Core & Kettlebell Work

My younger years I followed Yates and Mentzer style of training but getting older I just cant handle the aches and pain anymore and the risk of injury.
You can’t handle aches and pains from what? The heavier weight? Or the harder effort?

How do you do progressive overload then?

Fair question. I would say hitting heavier weight, week in and week out. I've dialed it back considerably and I'm focusing more on contractions instead of throwing weight up just to appease my ego.

However I do like to put my big boy pants on sometime and test my strength on Deadlifts, Squat and Bench to see where im at.

How does "focusing on contractions" grow muscles?

And training with heavier weight isn't "appeasing your ego". That would be throwing a stupid one rep max on that you've never done in 10 years. But using heavier weight in the 5-10 rep range for 2 sets isn't ego-lifting.

Valid points. How about this, My joints can no longer consistently take the heavier weights like they used to because it freaking hurts!! After all I'm approaching 50 and I'm no longer a spring chicken. I would say focusing on contractions creates the pump that requires you to stretch the facia therefore giving you the space to build new muscle fibers.

Stretch the fascia? Ok. Good luck with that. The pump has worked great for muscle growth. Um… do you know that would involve a fucking insane blood pressure if it actually worked that way. Nah, we aren’t hydraulic machines.

Lifting lighter weights is fine, as long as they're hard sets close to failure.

As for the stretching of the muscle fascia to make room for muscle growth, well that's just bro science. A pump is a transitory state, it comes and goes quickly, plus you'll get swelling from both heavy and light loads, so no need to worry. Your fascia will grow if needed.

You only need to look at the many massive people who don't train for a pump to see clearly that it's not needed. Or children who don't train but their muscle fascia obviously grows larger as they grow up.

You guys are brutal LOL But I love the conversation. Just so you know I'm the guy with the shirt on in the gym that says SHUT UP AND LIFT! Im old school and dont like get too technical with the sciences behind lifting. I enjoy training just as much as everyone else here. I'm not looking to get show ready, beach ready even hoe ready. Just looking to learn and apply it accordingly.. Ill take what everyone here has to say to heart and try not to take it personal. Everyone has their own experiences and philosophies.

You’re not training hard though. You’re moving weight around. Progressive overload is proven to work. Old school or not. You need to either increase weight or increase reps. Otherwise you need a shirt that says “Shut up and exercise”.

Mixed bag of replies there my friend. I'd say your guess of 25% body fat is close.
Great pic by the way. I appreciate the name you don't like to be called so big dude will do.

Someone miss read your tape and gave you 2 inches on your arm. That sucks. They look every part of 19.5 inches. But 17.5 isnt small by any means.
You have everything on point so it seems you could most likely give me advice.

The one thing I will say. Is 48 is getting on in age. Dont be stupid and treat your body as if you are 18. You will pay for it as do a lot of us here who are closer to 60. Or even over 60.

Btw. In your intro it suggests you started in the gym at 8 years old. Hope that was by choice. If a parent made you lift weights at that age with the intention of turning you into a powerlifter that is all kinds of wrong.

Good to have you here. Be kind to your body. You don't have anywhere else to live. Wish I had treated my body better when I was 48. That is for sure.

Well, seems I was mistaken on the gun size. I don't know what I was thinking. I hadn't measure in a while and I was up late posting this intro. I did a quick measure and I'm 17.5 , LOL Sorry, 2 inches when it comes to Biceps is a big difference. But I'll play.... Here's a Pic from a few months ago.

Take it easy... I'm no pro but I assure you that's some muscle maturity there at the age of 48
Sorry for the stickers. I do work at a Nuke plant.. I have to protect my identity somewhat.

Can you post a picture of a front relaxed pose. This picture makes it hard to see what you're working with.

Hi.
Thank you friend. I am trying to lift smarter these days and I'm seeing the benefits from doing so.
At the age of 8 I can remember going to my uncles house on the weekends and he would have his Weider Bench with barbell and dumbbells and those Cement plates encased in plastic. Thats where I grew to love working out. Ofcourse I didn't get real serious about till high school.

wow, so you really don't keep any other pictures of yourself? Do you always strike a most muscular pose in all your pictures? That must be incredibly awkward to be doing all the time.

Other members asked to see your arms, and I want to see everything you're working with. There's no difference between what they asked and what I did. Your refusal to provide another picture seems unusual, to say it kindly.

Bro bro. Cut him some slack. He’s old. His joints aren’t what they use to be. I didn’t know that before today but apparently your joints get weak before muscles get weak. But somehow muscles can still grow despite weak joints. 🤷‍♂️ Something to keep in mind. Old people are frail. And 48 is practically retirement age.

I don't want to critique you, I just want to see. Surely you can see how your refusal here seems really odd.

When I know you better, then maybe we can joke around... but until that happens this is where we are.
