Who thinks exercises to target the front delt are necessary. I see a lot of young guys doing all these fancy front delt raises at my gym but have no shoulder development. Not trying to be rude. It seems like there’s always some new front delt raise. I notice my delts saw a lot of growth when I stopped doing those and began doing a lot of heavy incline pressing

I also feel like a lot of people neglect rear delts (myself included)

A lot of my work buddies are into lifting now and they wanna do all these fancy isolation movements on cables and shit and I think those have their place for more advance lifters… but I try to convince my buddies keep it simple focus on the basic compound movements with good intensity and form and that shit will come. Don’t gotta be all fancy. But hey don’t trust me cause I workout in free shirts I got from fun runs and not $150 gym shark lol

Just random thoughts from a newb

Shoulders are a critical part of my division's judging. My programming only has front raises and Incline presses for front delts.

IMO with a properly designed program there’s very little reason to do anterior delt isolation stuff. They’re very heavily involved in all of your pressing movements and get a ton of work just through those.

If you can’t do heavy pressing for some reason, I can see a need, but for most people it’s not necessary. OHP or incline bench — hell, even flat bench — will destroy front raises for anterior delt growth any day.

I don't do raises for 'em anymore. Feel like they've grown a bunch from pressing alone. Rears and sides I pay a good bit of attention to. Makes a big difference to your shape when they pop a little bit, rears especially IMO.

Preface this by saying I am not a bodybuilder, not subject to judges.

I find no reason to do additional front delt work. Pressing and dips should take care of things. I do a lot of medial and rear deltoid focused work.

Shoulders get beat up due to pressing. I spend my effort and recovery points wisely.

Short of 4 sets of cable upright rows, I don't do any direct shoulder work. People over train their shoulders because the seem to not understand how many other movements involve the shoulder joint.

It's remarkably east to maintain shoulder girdle musculature, too.

A few sets of laterals 1-2x/wk is enough for me to maintain (if not increase, depending on calories, etc.) delt size.

A little off topic but gear for some reason pops my delts. It's the first sign that the party is starting.

I think people waste far too much time and effort trying isolate every head of every muscle.

I desperately need bigger rear delts so I don’t do any front delt work outside of presses.
