My son was home over the weekend and on his way back to college, he hit a deer just down the road. I got a call, "Dad I hit a deer. it's not dead and it keeps trying to get up. Can you get down here fast." So I grabbed my 9MM and a knife and headed down the road. Sure enough, it was struggling to get up and visually exhausted. I told my son that I'm going to shoot it and we'll throw it in the back of the truck. It was over quick.

We hunt. This son shot his first buck with a crossbow at about age 12. He told me last that night he never felt so bad for an animal and was glad I was there to end it's suffering. She didn't go to waste either: managed to get 30 lbs of boned out meat from her.

With 95% of all mature doe successfully bred, I figured she was carrying. This got me thinking, if the ASPCA and PETA want me to lay down my bow, maybe they should stop driving cars. Below is a picture of 3 unborn fawns that were in this doe. That's 4 dead deer right there in one shot.

Most people know PETA's stance on hunting:

"PETA opposes all violence, whether the victims are animals or humans. We inform people about hunting, which is nothing more than a violent form of entertainment that almost no one needs for survival. Hunting disrupts migration and hibernation, tears families apart, and causes animals immense suffering."

We all here love our dogs but if you're a hunter, I'm going to let you in on a not so well mentioned stance the ASPCA has on hunting.

"The ASPCA is opposed to hunting animals for sport, even if the animals killed in this way are subsequently consumed. The ASPCA does recognize that wildlife management may be necessary in situations where animal and human interests collide, but urges that management strategies be nonlethal wherever possible and never include avoidable suffering or distress."

Maybe these two groups need to see how much an animal sufferers from being struck by a vehicle. Better yet, how about a thank you for ending that animals suffering.

Most the time in a situation like that the only thing you can do is stop it from suffering you did right. I see tons of deer cross the road never hit one came close one time though.

Incredibly disturbing to see those unborn deer, but you clearly know what you're doing. The average animal rights people wouldn't have the mind to understand how good of a thing you did there. It also speaks volumes to how your son feels about animals; he's a hunter but had more compassion for the deer than most of society would.

The average animal rights person doesn’t have a clue about anything. They tend to believe animals die peacefully in their sleep. They talk about inhumane but have never watched a deer past their prime get eaten alive by yotes. Or teeth wore down to gums and slowly starve to death.

Eating vegetables from row crop agriculture is killing way more than a man who lives off venison.

Nearly all liberal stances are truly about “feel good” but have an opposite impact in the real world.

Hunters are the reason we even have wildlife left in this country.

I'm gonna leave this here:

I lived in a town in WI where there were several mink farms. They all have guards towers, high fencing and lot of really serious guard dogs. Why? Because several years back PETA snuck in in the night and released all the mink into the wild. Bunch of stupid fkrs. All these mink are born generation after generation in captivity. Grunted every one of those mink died, we're eaten by predators, etc...Not to mention that a mink farmer gets 1 payday....per year.

PETA and the ASPCA are run and supported by people who have no fkn clue what they're talking about. The list of examples is endless. As far as hunting goes, last time I checked the population of the North American whiteaol is the highest its ever been, and conservation through hunting is a major reason.

Don't even get me started on the Canadian grey wolf.......

I've always known about Peta. I had no idea ASPCA was against hunting too, wow.

@BRICKS that was one of my favorite lines from Yellowstone.

Everything we do on Earth has an impact on something. Ethical sportsman, hunters and fishermen, usually care about the environment just as much as the Peta people do. We just have a different take on maintaining the ecological balance.

You know what’s crazy.
I work for a highway dept. and you would not belive how
Many deer get hit and killed and an unborn is splattered in the other side of the road.

I’ve seen this with bear and a few other animals as well..

And the cars don’t look any prettier..

Right! I always said that. An ethical hunter has his game down in short order. Nature is not so kind.

Damn right none of that lets go look for it bullshit while the poor thing suffers and bleeds out. One clean and the lights just go out , bullet moves faster than sound , they don't even hear it coming.

Yup, No one wants to know about how quickly a deer goes down with a good shot but it's ok to hook a bass by the lip and let it spend 20 min trying to breath on the deck of a boat before expiring. Then again, a fish isn't all soft and cuddly.
Same as with insects. You don't see them out there advocating for protecting pollinators... because insects don't stir an emotional response.

BRICKS, I think we might be neighbors. I too used to have a commercial mink farm up near where I live. PETA came in one night and released thousands of farm raised mink into the wild. Poor things had zero survival instinct. Many were wandering the state highway waiting to get hit en masse, others starved to death, were eaten or met other equally cruel fates.

PETA did no favors to anyone that day.

Very cool vid, snake.

I'm not sure what the next 5-10 years is going to bring. We can't keep letting the wildlife population go unchecked. I live in the suburbs in the NE. We have an over abundance of deer, turkey, fox ect....
Now, we have packs of coyotes. We've seen them on our security cameras & now don't dare let the dogs out solo.
My dog got me out of bed at midnight the other night to go out. It's the first time that I actually heard the Coyotes howling & carrying on. It was friggin loud & sounded like a shit ton of them. I had to put the rush on my little fat dog while he had the shits.
We have also had bear sightings now in my area. I'm thinking the wildlife are getting ready for all out war on the human population.
